January Back to School

Happy Back to School Day - at least I went back to school today, and I suspect most of you did, too.

I walked in the teacher's door and was about half way to the lounge, when the secretary caught me and said, "I'm sorry for the late notice, but you're getting a new student today." Boo Hiss. The most dreaded words. Or maybe I'm just a stinker. New kids mean brain work. I've got to remember all the places where I've got to plug this kiddo in - centers, mail box, computer access, etc. etc.

A huge aside here - I have, in the past, made new student baggies - so all the labels, cards, sticks, etc. that I need are right there. Helps the brain a little. I must have forgotten to do that this year.

The good news is - it's a girl! And she helps even out {just a tad bit} my very uneven boy to girl ratio. She also seems like a sweetie and was already fitting in with most of the girls.

And my sweet bubby sent this:

What a great way to start the week!

Hope you had some happy surprise today -
PS - I decided to leave my penguin on for a while - he's still appropriately seasonal!

  1. My school always gives us a day to prepare for new students. When parents come to register, the child can't actually enroll until the following day. It really helps us out in the classrooms.

    1. We usually have a day, too. It certainly helps - mentally and physically :)

  2. Good luck your new friend. Lovely flowers. My happy surprise--my desk was clean before I left school for the day. That means I can walk in a little late tomorrow and still be on time!! LOL

  3. I know exactly how you feel with a new student- and last minute like that! From that moment, all I can think of is getting her name on a folder, a cubby, class lists, a group, a nametag, a bus, etc. etc. Luckily, my numbers are high by 3 so I won't be the next one getting a student all year- hopefully! I'm also glad she is a sweetie! Love the flowers!

    1. I'm so glad I'm not the only one. My first thought is "Noooooooooo" but once I get that out of the way, I'm fine. This should be the last one I get for a while, I've got one more than the other two teachers.

  4. New students at the last minute can cause a little panic. It's always good when they seem to fit right in. Your flowers are very pretty!

    1. I know - there's so many things with a new student - can they read, do math, talk to a buddy, ack!
And I love my flowers! Thanks!

  5. We don't ever get a day to prepare for a new student unless the parent just wants the child to start the next day. My poor teaching partner had a new student come in during her formal evaluation this week.
