New Year

Hello.  It's me.  I'm still here.

And the new school year is kicking me in the behinny!

Tonight I asked my hub-bub if he still loved me 'cause I was feeling like an old lady! {He said Yes!}

I'm tired and stiff and by the time I get home, all I want to do is crash. {I know it will get better.}

I have to tell you, though, I'm liking these new little friends. I think I might have another good class.

We've done routines, we've drawn and written, and started some math. We're practicing centers. And trying to remember expectations {even Mrs. S. has to remember - and not let those cutie pies start talking out of turn}.

I was thinking tonight after I got home, it's so hard to remember all the teaching of behaviors - that's the best I can think of to call them - how we walk in the hall, how we talk to a buddy, how we raise our hand to share, how we don't talk when Mrs. S. is talking, etc. etc. But this is what makes the rest of the year work!

This is what's on my door right now -

This was a great first day activity I borrowed from the newbie teacher. I used a die cut and cut out the puzzle pieces, then let them draw whatever they wanted. I really like it - and it makes me smile every time I walk by it.

If you've started back, I hope you are a happy camper. And if you haven't, well, enjoy those last days of summer!

  1. Enjoy your year, Sara! Have a great one! I feel the same way with practicing routines, behaviors, yadda yadda. I'll be glad when it's October and we're past these first few weeks!

  2. Oy...yes, the beginning of the year is exhausting! We've been working hard on expectations and routines too, and I think my kids are also going well with all our practice. Good luck!

    1. If I can just make it to Labor Day! I sometimes forgot all the little things we need to practice - til they start driving me nuts with something. Then I remember for sure!

  3. Oh Sara! I am with you. It is so hard to remember every little thing that I want to explain to the kiddos. I have only had two days, but we will get there...wish I could fast forward to after Labor Day too. That's when I really get into a routine!

  4. Your door is great! We make a big puzzle similar to that idea. I've done it on the first day of school for years and years. It's such a great way of letting them know that we all notice when they're not at school too. The puzzle just isn't complete if a piece is missing. So don't be gone. :)
